Junior Curators: Holiday Edition - Saturday, November 16, 2024 ~ 9:00-10:30 AM
In this workshop, we'll cover the history behind various holiday traditions as well as humanity's fascination with collecting and documenting our past. Then, participants will learn how to document and exhibit artifacts of their own.
Each child will need to bring in one object from home. The chosen item should have special meaning to the child or the family and reflect their holiday traditions that the child can explain in their own words in two or three sentences. The objects will be on exhibit at the museum from November 19, 2024 - January 5, 2025. Best suited for children ages 8-12.
History of the Historical Society - Tuesday, November 19, 2024 ~ 6:00 PM
For nearly 35 years, the Oconomowoc Historical Society has operated a gem of a museum on the corner of Roosevelt Park. But our organization's roots run deep and our history goes back nearly a century. Where was Oconomowoc's first museum and who organized it? What was the current museum building before it was a museum? How has the museum changed over the years? Learn the answers to these questions and more in this engaging program given by two of our most knowledgeable and engaging volunteer presenters Barb Elwood-Goetsch and Jolayne Lindberg.
Cost: Free for members; $10.00 per person suggested donation for non-members
In collaboration with Oconomowoc High School, we are proud to present "History as Art II." By combining the artistic talents of Oconomowoc High School students with the rich historical resources of the Oconomowoc Historical Society, this project will blend history and artistic interpretation into compelling works of art.
Creations will be displayed in the museum next to their object(s) of inspiration beginning Thursday, November 14. Each piece will include a brief statement explaining its inspiration and what it means to the artist.
